Abstract
The aim of Automatic Generation Control (AGC) in any power system is to restore the frequency and tie line power in a smooth way to its nominal value in the shortest possible time if any load disturbance occurs at any area of the system. A two area interconnected power system is investigated in this paper under several load conditions, taken into account the various system nonlinearities to ensure the robustness of the proposed control strategy. A dc tie line is integrated in parallel with the ac tie line to stabilize the frequency of oscillation and based on it a comprehensive mathematical model is developed. Initially the gains and frequency bias parameters of the controller are tuned on the basis of performance index. Online Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is then employed to generate the controller parameters of each area, in accordance to the rapid changes of small load perturbation (SLP). It may be apprehended from the simulation results that the proposed FLC controller is more efficient to minimize the effect of SLP.
