Abstract

The study examined the resource use efficiency of rice production in Bade Local Government of Yobe State. A multistage random sampling technique was employed to select 110 respondents. The data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study indicated that most of the respondents are small-scale rice farmers and were youth, accounting for 38% of the respondents. The analysis further indicated that seed, fertilizer, labor, and herbicide were determinants of Rice production in the study area and are significant at 1%, 1%, 10%, and 10%, respectively. The result further shows that seed, fertilizer, and herbicide were underutilized while labor was over-utilized. The problems encountered by the farmers included: lack of capital, lack of improved seeds, lack of extension and training, lack of fertilizer, and lack of agro-chemicals. The study recommended that inputs such as improved seeds fertilizer and extension services should be made available to farmers at affordable prices by relevant stakeholders to increase rice production in Bade local government area.
