The paper describes simulation research, conducted at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center, examining datalink communications and traffic intent data during envisioned four-dimensional trajectory (4DT)-based and equivalent visual (EV) surface operations. Overall, the results suggest that controller pilot datalink communications (CPDLC) with the use of mandatory pilot read-back of all clearances significantly enhanced situation awareness for 4DT and EV surface operations.
