A Reflection on Engaging Black Youth in Urban Agriculture During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

This paper reflects on a shared experience of mobilizing Black youth in food sovereignty activism during the COVID-19 pandemic. We present personal narratives of the authors who are part of the project’s leadership team, a description of our process of establishing a Black youth-led farm project in southern Ontario, and reflections on lessons learned. Lessons learned address some of the challenges of engaging in youth-led projects in the context of virtual spaces.
