Implementation of IP Screening / Filtering Using IXP 1200 Network Processor

Abstract

This paper proposes a screening/filtering technique to implement a wide variety of network security policies. The primary goal of these policies is generally to prevent unauthorized network access without hindering authorized network access. This technique involves controlling access to a network by analyzing the incoming and outgoing packets and letting them pass or halting them based on the IP addresses of the source and destination. Screening/ filtering is one technique among many for implementing security firewalls.
