Abstract

The objective of this paper is to discuss a nonlinear, comprehensive cardiovascular model for the development and evaluation of closed loop therapy. This model includes the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects of three cardiovascular agents. As an example, this paper will focus on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics effects of sodium nitroprusside on mean arterial pressure as a function of arterial resistance and venous tone. Furthermore, this pharmacological model of sodium nitroprusside will be verified with experimental data presented in the literature.
