The Exposición was an exceptional exhibition organized by the Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Medellín, representative of the nascent industrialization of the city. The aim, organization and structure of the exhibition is analysed as an expression of Colombia’s nascent national industry. We conclude that the exhibition was an act of affirmation by Antioquia’s bourgeoisie, promoting a new imaginary of the nation through “industrial patriotism”. This analysis is based on the board proceedings of the Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas of Medellin, the exhibition catalogue, programme and rules, press reports, magazines, and secondary sources.
