Abstract

Online monitoring of power devices' state is a very important part of the Smart Grid (SM) building plan. Icing on the overhead transmission lines cause great accidents and vast economic loss. In China, icing monitoring technology and relative research is a hot point. The current operating icing monitoring systems based on electrical measurement do not work efficiently because it cannot solve the problem of electromagnetic interference with power supply. The fiber optic sensors, with light as the measurement media, solve those problems perfectly. In this paper, an icing monitoring system based on Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors is proposed. The system architecture design, the sensors fixing methods, and the development of the monitoring software, are introduced in detail.
