Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the performance of a semi-active vibration absorber (SVA) based on magnetorheological (MR) materials for a half-car model. A mathematical model of the SVA is developed and the dynamic characteristics of the system are investigated. MR dampers and MR Elastomers are combined in the SVA in order to achieve semi-active control. The MR material properties are modulated by the imposed magnetic field, allowing the variable damping and stiffness. An optimal control strategy is developed and optimal damping parameters are identified by using an iterative optimization algorithm. Finally, the effectiveness of the SVA is evaluated by analyzing its dynamic response under different road excitations. The results show that the SVA based on MR dampers can effectively reduce the vibration of the half-car model and produces better results than the passive vibration absorber.
