Abstract

Cellular Communication networks are constantly evolving into smaller cells as it moves towards the latest 5G technology. This gradual evolution requires a study and understanding of all the relevant parameters in a Cellular System to obtain the best Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of Call Blocking (CB) and Call Dropping (CD). In this paper, the effect of velocity, available resources and cell size on CB and CD of cellular calls has been studied. It has been a challenge to provide an ses, as with time we are moving towards faster modes of transport. Also, to cater to the ever-increasing number of mobile users and to embrace new technologies like 5G, cell sizes will become relatively smaller than the prevalent technologies, which means the generation of a greater number of handoffs within a particular area. It is hence imperative that the effect of velocity and cell sizes be studied along with the estimation of the necessary quantum of resources- which has been done in this paper. We have observed the effect of variation of velocity of mobile along with the change in cell size. We analyze the QoS in terms of CB and CD with respect to the number of available resources (channels). Finally, this paper will provide an idea about the effects of different parameters on the QoS while cell size continuously reduces to "Small Cells" and to understand the frequent handoff generation that to be tackled efficiently.
