Abstract

Wind power generation is increasingly gaining popularity around the world and in the Philippines, with its economic and environmental benefits. However, its intermittent nature poses a problem on power system adequacy, the effects of which must be quantified for reliable system operation and proper expansion planning. The Effective Load Carry Capability (ELCC) is one such metric that can quantify the effects of wind generation on system adequacy. In this paper, we present the computed ELCC of four wind farms in the Philippine Luzon grid and compare it to other published results in other countries.
