Abstract
In the Budapest Metro there are scads of innovative solutions. It was built in 1896, as the first in the European continent, the second after the London Metro in 1890. The following engineering solutions were implemented: −goose neck chassie −bi-directional electrical motor driven chassie −upper current collector −bogie with built in motor −electrical lighting in the stations and the carriages −safety signalisation −cut-and-cover building technology −during the construction the water was pumped by electric motors, etc. It served as pattern for Berlin, Paris and Buenos Aires metro. The Budapest Metro line No.1. is not only a technical achievement that we can envy 125 years later. It is a muster up of many up-to-date technological solutions but a pattern for the set of innovations.
