Abstract

In recent years, new type main engines which have long stroke slender shafts have appeared. Because of the softness of the new engine shaft system, torsional, axial and bending vibrations are coupled together, and the vibrations are complicated and influenced to the vibrations of the engine room and the ship hull. A vibration analysis has been developed by using the Building Block Approach, which has some merit for the countermeasure of vibration reduction, and confirmed the accuracy compared with actual ship measurement data.
