Abstract

In this paper, we propose a potential application of the photonic crystals. Just like the demonstrated high order TE mode operation, a high order TM/sub mno/ mode in a rectangular cavity can be also dominantly interacted with a linear electron beam by using the PBG effect. In other words, the exclusion of the fundamental mode and some low order modes by using the PBG of the photonic crystals can make the high order TM/sub mno/ mode be dominant in the photonic crystal cavity.
