Abstract
The problems associated with the development of single-industry towns in the Urals are at risk of aggravating due to increased economic pressure on the Russian Federation. Direct and indirect restrictions related to the ban on the supply of equipment, import and export of products, force us to pay close attention to the risks associated with the activities of city-forming enterprises and possible prospects for the development of monopolistic settlements of the Ural macroregion. The article examines the current socio-economic and demographic situation of single-industry settlements of the Ural Federal District. A preliminary assessment of the impact of restrictive measures on the economy of the regions is given. The current data on demographic potential, migration trends and the role of city-forming enterprises in the labor market of single-industry settlements are presented. A typology of monopopulations has been created that are most susceptible to economic downturn due to sanctions pressure. Possible consequences and development trends in connection with current foreign policy events are described.
