Abstract

The conclusion discusses the relevance of Carl Schmitt’s thought for the 21st century. This section outlines five conceptual pillars that underpinned the Russian political system during two decades of Putinist rule. It explains how authoritarian responses to social and political challenges ultimately created serious systemic failings that began to undermine the legitimacy of the Putinist state in the late 2010s.
