Currently the vegetative cover of the micro-region comprises 35% of its original formation with the largest remnants of Caatinga located in the municipalities of Itapicuru and Ribeira do Amparo. By the General Index of Environmental Degradation (IGD), the micro-region is at a fairly high level of degradation, with the highest IGD in the municipalities of Adustina and Paripiranga (0.21 <IGD <0.30). And Antas, Cipó and Nova Soure as the minors (IGD <0,10). Abstract
