Abstract

The following article briefly reviews the toxicology of the pyrethroid class of substances. Two model examples are described to show what problems are encountered when applying them in interiors, in this case in schools. It is demonstrated that as a matter of principle all measures to fight insect pests in our living and working environment must be first and foremost critically considered in the light of controlling or exterminating the pest on the one hand and preventing possible health risks involved in the action, on the other. From the aspect of protective health measures it must be concluded that the examples cited here sound a note of severe warning to abstain as far as possible from using long-term pesticides--including pyrethroids--that dangerously contaminate the aerosol.
