Abstract

EnglishInitiated in 2005, the “Nucleo de Pesquisa dos Exvotos” project focuses on the Miracle Halls receiving ex-votos in shrines from Brazil to the southern United States. The analysis of the hanging and display devices reveals how social and collective memory is made up of objects that witness lives and devotions, whose functioning rests on the interaction of a sick body, that of man, with a healing body, that of divine power. If it makes it possible to apprehend the votive object in its diversity thanks to the formal categories it establishes, its exhibition also manifests its informative and communicational dimension. The Hall of Miracles spatializes and thus shows a collective history of men, constituted from individual testimonies about their evils and their beliefs. francaisInitie en 2005, le projet “Nucleo de Pesquisa dos Exvotos” porte sur les Salles des Miracles recevant les ex-voto dans les sanctuaires, depuis le Bresil jusqu'au Sud des Etats-Unis. L'analyse des dispositifs d'accrochage et de monstration revele comment la memoire sociale et collective est constituee d'objets temoins de vies et de devotions, dont le fonctionnement repose sur l'interaction d’un corps malade, celui de l’homme, avec un corps guerisseur, celui de la puissance divine. Si elle permet d'apprehender l'objet votif dans sa diversite grâce aux categories formelles qu'elle etablit, son exposition manifeste egalement sa dimension informative et communicationnelle. La Salle des Miracles spatialise et donne ainsi a voir une histoire collective des hommes, constituee a partir de temoignages individuels sur leurs maux et leurs croyances.
