Abstract

In Khachatur Abovyan’s novel «Wounds of Armenia», there are various passages that outwardly seem like hyperbolic descriptions, which, surprisingly, are artistic expressions of specific historical events. What has been said is more evident when we compare different parts of the novel with reports of the Russian military and official documents of the time. It should be noted that these documents and historical works were published after Abovyan’s death. Therefore, the writer could not be familiar with those studies and artistically imagine the descriptions found in them in his novel. Here we see a complex and surprising creative phenomenon, which goes beyond the scope of «Wounds of Armenia».How the same event was subjected to a fictional generalization by the writer who witnessed it more than a decade later, how it is described and interpreted by the Russian military and statesmen who participated and witnessed the same events. A comparison of «Wounds of Armenia» and reports and memoirs written by the Russian military and various officials of the time show that Abovyan’s novel is a fictional chronicle of historical events.
