Abstract

Electron cyclotron heating experiments have been perfomed in Heliotron E device to produce and heat the high temperature plasma. Varian VGE 8G50 Gyratrons provide 300–400 kw, 53.2 GKz microwave to the vacuum chamber. The typical plasma parameters obtained are Tc =1.5 keV, ne = 1–3 × 10 cm−3. The heating rates are 6–10 eV/kw and 6–8 J/kw. These values are 1–2 times larger than that of tokamaks.
