Abstract
GCAC (generic call admission control) has been adopted by the ATM Forum in its PNNI specification to reduce call setup delay. In the current version of PNNI specification, GCAC is separated from the route computation. All links within the network must be checked against GCAC even if they are not involved in the route computation. To further reduce call setup delay, a new mechanism, the integrated path selection (IPS), is proposed in this paper. In the IPS mechanism, only the links involved in the route computation need to be checked against GCAC. Analysis shows that by using IPS, the number of link checks can be reduced by 30% on the average.
