Abstract

Studies were performed on a set of diffusion weighted magnetic resonance images (DW-MRI) of the human brain (in the axial plane) to find the relationship between the MRI light intensity high frequency power (HFP) parameter values and the different stages of intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). Analysis of the results show that the differences in the light intensity HFP values in the DW-MRI for the subjects with ICH compared to their contralateral normal hemispheres, were highly significant (p < 0.05) in the areas of the brain where there was a high incidence of haemorrhage. The relative increase in the light intensity HFP values for the subjects with ICH was in the range of (101.35 – 1534.81) times compared to the corresponding HFP values in the contralateral normal hemisphere. The results demonstrate that the quantitative changes in the HFP parameter values can be assessed and possibly used in grading the different stages of the haemorrhage, to assist the neuro surgeons for rapid diagnosis and implementation of treatment to protect the patients from additional damage to their brain tissue.
