Abstract
Due to advancement of electronic hardware and software, big leaps in computational power and resurging of several enabling technologies such as AI, big data and cloud is continue happening. Gaining momentum in traditional industries such as automotive, a huge trend of applying these new technologies into commercial aviation industry is happening. The main application areas include better monitoring and health management, easier or faster maintenance support that could generate better airline economy. The first part of this paper summarizes these technologies and their potential usage in commercial aviation, followed by second part with industry movements in this digitalization trend. Finally, impacts to the industry and some observation thoughts are given in the conclusion part. By comparing the new technologies and activities of large corporation, the reader should easily get better understanding of future trend in commercial aviation maintenance and support digitalization. This paper could also promote new technologies applying in aviation industry, by bridging the gap between industry and academia. Guiding research institution, technology startups and universities the right way to help industry in this digital revolution.
