Abstract
In order to reduce the routing overhead, IPv6 allows the mobile node to send the binding updates to its correspondent node so that the correspondent node can send packets to the mobile node directly (also named as the route optimization). Thus, the binding update message is sent to create the association of a peering connection. It is obvious that the procedure of binding update will become complex for the movement of a network. Because several active connections may exist within a moving network and each of them may have different correspondent node. In this paper, the scheme of independent binding update is studied in detail to deal with the procedures required for mobile networks. This approach makes the operation scenarios of the mobile node and the mobile router the same no matter when it travels alone or travels with a mobile network. Furthermore, the multicast scheme is proposed to reduce the overhead of binding update of the mobile network. The simulation results illustrate that the proposed scheme can effectively reduce the number of binding update messages especially when the number of nodes in the mobile network is getting large. And the results also indicate that the percentage of direct-transmitted packets is also increased.
