UNOBVIOUS CONSEQUENCES OF CONVENTIONALISM

Abstract

The author analyzes the attempt to distinguish between science and its non-genuine forms such as pseudoscience on the ideological platform of conventionalism. It is shown that conventionalism proceeds from an abstract, non-historical, idealized image of science that does not take into account the real complexity of the subject. The coincidence of opinions of scientists, even the most talented and reputable does not guarantee the verity. The truth is the reason for consent, not its result. The adoption of conventionalism may lead to the fact that the mainstream will be intercepted by businessmen from science which are now parasitizing on its megabrand. As applied to social science, conventionalism leads to the justification of the situation when science is replaced by "biased, obedient apologetics".
