Abstract

The aim of this paper is to give an account of the educational reform implemented in Mexico during the presidential term of Enrique Peña Nieto with special reference to teacher evaluation and training. Reference is also made to resistance movements in some of the Mexican states. The most outstanding remarks in this analysis are: First, normal schools are losing the monopoly of teacher training; Second, the implementing of opposition contests for assigning teaching posts has opened the door for university graduates; and Third, universities have now a major role to play in relation to in service teacher training.
