On the Nature of the Mountains

Abstract

Chapter 9 presents a list of mountains that seems to be organized according to two different geographical sources, one based on the Avestan tradition, the other on the Sasanian traditions of the “chronicles of the provinces” (ayādgārīhā ī šahrīhā). The chapter describes how Mount Harburz is the origin of all the mountains in the world.
