Abstract
In order to produce a good efficiency in production and costs reduction, assembly line balancing plays an important role in modern manufacturing industries. Assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) is the problem that allow assigning of the tasks to the workstations so that the objective functions that have being set are optimized. The aim of this study is to develop a mathematical model for two-sided single model assembly line (TALBP). This paper considers motorcycle industry as one of the scope. Initial studies were carried out using mathematical model, then it is optimized by using Ranked Positional Weight (RPW) method. Nevertheless, the number of workstations does not been minimize which is 24 workstations. This was probably as a result of some other factors such as the positional constraints and immediate predecessor.
