Abstract

This article examines the ability of literature and art to uncover, reflect and differentiate important dimensions in the present-day refugee and migrant crisis in and around the Mediterranean. Through an interdisciplinary study, in which theories of comparative literature and the science of religion are used to gain insight into some of the anthropological and metaphysical complications of the border-crossing, the article concludes that the aesthetic flight narratives bring a multifaceted, nuanced contribution to the complicated migrant and refugee crisis.
