Abstract

Cities have begun to experience the effects of climate change, which is a global problem, more and more. Many cities around the world are developing mitigation and adaptation strategies for urban resilience and have 2030-2050 targets. Cities in Turkey also suffer from flood disasters. In recent years, flood disasters have occurred in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Samsun and Giresun, due to extreme precipitation. This study, in the first stage, investigates adaptation plans for a resilient city that includes increasing green areas and permeable surfaces, using green roofs, rehabilitation of stream beds, and using cisterns against the risk of flooding. This study focuses on Bursa, which is one of the cities that have many stream beds and prone to extreme precipitation. Accordingly, suggestions for the flood risk adaptation will be given based on the literature particularly for the Yildirim district, which is vulnerable due to the built environment and low-profile socioeconomic status it has.
