Abstract

This chapter reviews the main points of the fourteen books of the Mishneh torah. It details why Maimonides ends the first book of the Mishneh torah, the Book of Knowledge, with Laws of Repentance, which emphasizes that the love of God depends upon the knowledge of God. It also looks at the two chapters that Maimonides used for metaphysical matters and another two chapters on physical matters, which made it possible for readers to approach the love of God. The chapter describes the Mishneh torah's messianic universalism is an outgrowth of Maimonides' understanding of the nature of humanity. It includes the knowledge/love of God, the tension between Abrahamic and Mosaic Torahs, and the connections to messianism as an emphasis on peace as an overarching goal for a universal utopia.
