Abstract

The use of discrete wavelet transforms (DWT) for data compression and feature extraction is an area of active research. The particular focus of this work is the application of the DWT to extract relevant features from standoff spectral data. Through the examination of data sets collected under controlled laboratory conditions the necessary sensitivity of these techniques is shown. Moreover the detection of specific chemical species from representative operational data is examined and the results are presented.
