Educating HCI practitioners: evaluating what industry needs and what academia delivers

Abstract

INTRODUCTION This CHI’96 workshop will explore issues in HCI education from an academic and industrial perspective. The workshop will build on previous efforts including past CHI workshops on HCI Education and the efforts reported in: [1] ACM (1992). The ACM SIGCHI Curricula for Human-Computer Interaction, [2] Gary Strong (1992). report, and [3] Mike Mulder (1993). “1nformatics” report. The focus of the workshop is on improving the HCI educational process, and thereby reducing the training time needed once HCI graduates arrive at the workplace.
