Abstract
In this article, are analyzed the processes of desertification in the Region of Planning and Management of the Waters of the Macururé and Curaçá Rivers. The mapping of land use, through photointerpretation of images RapidEye, allowed to verify that the anthropized Caatinga, the Caatinga anthropized park and Agriculture occupy more than half of the region and show decline of vegetation resilience. These are areas of natural pastures that support extensive herds whose overgrazing generates damage and expands areas of environmental degradation. As consequence, the caatingas support capacity declines and the bare soils, exposed to erosion, reach wide extensions. In these conditions, desertification cells and core are observed.
