Abstract

A concurrent engineering design environment has been devised based on semantic Web technologies. The domain knowledge of design objects can be logically expressed by OWL ontology language. Design rules regarding change management are encoded in ECA (event-condition-action) rules. The logical expressions in condition clauses of the ECA rules are reasoned with the domain knowledge expressed by OWL. Data involved in engineering design are characterized by their large amount and complicated relationships. In this paper, we use properties in OWL in order to model those relationships among design data.
