Violence, child prisoners and institutionalised impunity

©2013 Centre for Crime and Justice Studies 10.1080/09627251.2014.984548 Just over a decade ago Paulo Sergio Pinheiro was appointed, at Assistant Secretary-General level, to direct the United Nations Secretary-General’s Study on Violence Against Children: the most wide-ranging and detailed analysis of its type in history. The final report published and presented to the United Nations General Assembly in November 2006 (Pinheiro, 2006) provides abundant and starkly depressing evidence that violence against children is an endemic feature of the global landscape.
