INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMME PLANS AND BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION: a system of care for the residential setting

Abstract

The article describes the implementation of the individual programme plan (IPP) system as an approach to care in residential units for mentally handicapped people. It contrasts this system of care and training with programmes that are labelled “behaviour modification” which often place heavy reliance on psychologists for their implementation and maintenance. IPP system can be tailored to run in units where there is no available psychological support.
