Efficient design procedure of dual-mode antennas based on the characteristic modes theory

Abstract

This paper presents a systematic and efficient approach for design of a dual-mode antenna. In this approach, characteristic mode analysis is performed on the antenna structure to assess the suitability of the proposed structure for wideband dual-mode operation. After its suitability is assessed, a parametric study is performed on characteristic modes of the structure to extract some guidelines for the antenna design. Finally, these guidelines are used for design of the dual-mode antenna.
