"GREEN" COMPROMISE: THE INNOVATIVE POTENTIAL OF THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY IN THE CONTEXT OF DE-CARBONIZATION

Abstract

The article considers the prospects of the oil industry in the context of global innovation decarbonization trends. Among the main problems the following are highlighted: the critical place of oil and gas industry in Rus-sian economy, costly search for alternatives, lack of clear policy and regulations. The arti-cle attempts to review the sequence of de-carbonization measures in the oil industry and possible solutions: carbon capture, utili-zation and storage (CCUS), low-carbon fuels, electrification and energy efficiency measures. Particular attention is paid to find-ing innovation solutions that will curb global warming, while being sufficiently cost-effective.
