Abstract

A mobile ad-hoc network is formed by a group of mobile hosts, each installed with a wireless network interface, without the aid of infrastructure. The performance evaluation of several protocols in ad-hoc networks is carried out under a simulation environment. The simulation should provide us the ideal environment under which the behavior of nodes and the protocols can be tested. The mobility models therefore play a vital role in describing the topology and the movement of the nodes. Recent survey on the mobility models for the ad-hoc networks illustrates the different models and their weaknesses in resembling the realistic scenario. Though the recent models consider the placement of obstacles, still there are some weaknesses. This paper provides a realistic mobility model, called VeMo, by dividing the network area into different types of zones. The movement of the node considers the time factor and the attraction weight. The results shows that the performance of the standard routing protocol like DSR degrades while it is being used with this mobility model.
Ad Hoc
