It is necessary to conduct experimental researches on the discharge characteristics of the air gaps of the 330kV tower. In this paper, the power frequency voltage, the switching impulse and lighting impulse voltage discharge tests were carried out at Tibet. Then, the 50% discharge voltage curves of different altitude were obtained. Finally, the clearance distance required for 330kV transmission lines was also recommended.
