Abstract
E-healthcare is emerging as a new technology for monitoring vital body parameters of patient having chronic disease or during disaster. Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is one such technology that is improving the quality of health care. WBAN has personal patient data. Attackers can access this data from Wireless Sensor Nodes (WSNs) or from the wireless channel between nodes and server; this requires efficient security protocol for providing data security. In case of emergency, the vital parameters should be easily accessed by the doctor's or the paramedic. Stringent authentication and security criteria's makes it difficult to access the data during emergency, which may prove to be disastrous for the patient. This paper proposes a new approach for data security in wireless channel specifically during emergency conditions. WBAN uses Advanced Encryption Standard-128 (AES-128) cipher which requires substantial time for encryption which may be fatal in case of emergencies. Security mechanism for sensor nodes should be lightweight due to the area and resource constraints. The proposed method uses chaos based scrambling in case of emergency, which is lightweight with respect to AES and also requires very less processing time which is desired in emergencies.
