Abstract
This paper presents the concept of using the multitaper time-frequency (TF) reassigned spectrogram in the context of micro-Doppler signal analysis used in radar applications. Firstly, the theoretical background essential for understanding the further analysis and implementation of the considered method is presented. The authors give a detailed description of the multitaper TF reassignment technique and its advantages, such as improved component separability on a plane. Next, simulation results highlighting the advantages of multitaper reassignment in the context of applying it in micro-Doppler analyses are illustrated. The numerical experiment is thoroughly examined from the perspective of micro-Doppler applications, allowing the components which contribute the most to remain visible on the TF distribution. Finally, real data collected by a compact short-range radar system is processed, verifying the use of the proposed technique in real operating radars by energy concentration and averaging noise.
