Abstract

Unlike conventional plated - through - hole technology, Surface Mount Technology (SMT) is an "integral" technology, requiring that design, component selection, manufacturing sequences, materials, and processes be compatible and actively contribute toward a quality end product. Because of this interdependence, SMT projects require a significant amount of proactive management in order to be successful. In this paper, I have attempted to describe , in a usable form to most technically trained personnel and technical managers, how t o manage SMT in a manner that leads to positive results.
