Abstract

The operation and scheduling of an electrical power systems needs to balance the requirements as economic as possible. The system has to be included with Flexible AC Transmission (FACTS) devices is to enhance the system performance. With the help of these controllers the transmission capacity, flexibility in control can be achieved. Obtaining solution for objective optimization with conventional methods is a tedious task. Hence the modern evolutionary algorithms are implemented to obtain solution for the optimization problems. In this paper, an optimization problem is formulated by considering different objectives such as loadability of the system, generation fuel cost and transmission losses. The system capability is increased by incorporating one of the popular FACTS shunt- series controllers, known as Hybrid Flow Controller (HFC). This paper analyzes the impact of HFC on optimization problem by presenting results for two cases such as without and with HFC by considering and satisfying system constraints. The results for standard test system supports the proposed method and effect of HFC on system performance.
