Abstract

Basic concept and configurations of optoelectronic image rejection mixing have been proposed and demonstrated. It was confirmed in a preliminary experiment that a 27 MHz single tone IF signal is up-converted by 60 GHz optoelectronically without any millimeter-wave phase control or filter circuits. A fairly high image rejection ratio of 36.5 dB was also achieved by combining two optical filtering techniques provided by a Fabry-Perot etalon and polarization mode dispersion of polarization maintaining fiber.
