Abstract
This paper presents a novel low profile and broadband dielectric resonator antenna fed by a coaxial probe. It consists of a substrate, a stepped patch, and a dielectric resonator. Both the substrate and the dielectric resonator are made of high resistivity silicon. An air cavity and a U-shaped slot are utilized to broaden impedance bandwidth and improve the gain. To verify the proposed dielectric resonator antenna, a prototype antenna has been fabricated. The proposed dielectric resonator antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth from 8 to 14 GHz with a peak gain of 6.8 dBi at 11 GHz.
