Abstract

rent synchronic reflexes of the same historical phoneme (i.e., Uskȑs / Vazȃm 'Ea -ster', ĩgla / jãgla 'needle', cȑv / cȓv / čȑv 'worm', etc.), which is exactly the exemplary characteristic of the system in which two diametrically opposed processes are in progress: (1) important structural changes as a result of the influence of the Što-kavian standard and non-standard varieties and, simultaneously, (2) the striving to preserve archaic linguistic features and dialectological identity.
