A syntactic approach for building a knowledge-based pattern recognition system

Abstract

The inherent link is discussed between the syntactic pattern recognition system and a type of expert system, and it is shown that syntactic approach itself has basic characteristics of this type of expert system. In some ways, the syntactic recognition system has advantages over these expert systems, and many functions of expert system can be realized in the syntactic recognition system. It is concluded that with some improvements to the syntactic recognition system a knowledge-based pattern recognition system can be built. An example of application of the syntactic system is also given.<>
